Grass Skirt Project is a not-for-profit based in Australia that aims to reduce the prevalence of Family & Sexual Violence (FSV) & increase gender equality in Papua New Guinea by empowering and enabling people there to participate in sports. We collect new and used sporting equipment and clothing in Australia and partner with sporting associations, clubs, schools and communities to distribute these goods to the people of Papua New Guinea. We create innovative, community driven programs centred on participating in healthy activities such as weightlifting/cross-fit, surfing, basketball and rugby football to engage people in education and awareness of issues relating to FSV. We help organisations in PNG to create and implement inclusive policies to help facilitate increasing gender equality. We also create multimedia content and engage in profile raising activities to promote positive Melanesian role models (both male and female) and make them more visible.
